Falls Prevention Best Practice Guide for State Health Departments

The “Falls Prevention Best Practice Guide for State Health Departments,” developed by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a comprehensive resource designed to address the public health impact of unintentional falls among older adults.

The guide outlines three key steps:

  1. Documenting current activities in falls prevention.
  2. Understanding how current activities can be used to support community-clinical linkages in communities.
  3. Planning for expanding falls prevention activities to support community-clinical linkages.

State health departments can use this guide to enhance their efforts in reducing the burden of falls and to benefit from insights and strategies implemented by other states in addressing this critical public health issue.
