Workforce Shortage Among ID/A Providers Fueled by Low Wages, High Vacancies, High Turnover

The Center for Healthcare Solutions has been conducting compensation surveys for healthcare, human services, and ID/A providers for over four decades. Late last fall, they collaborated with Arc of PARCPA, and TPA to produce a detailed report on the state of the ID/A industry workforce. Fifty-two organizations representing a full array of services from every region across Pennsylvania participated in this survey. The survey collected data through September 30, 2022, to ensure full compliance with federal laws.  Over 9,000 employees were included representing 40 different positions to evaluate wage compression issues and critical data on over 7,000 DSPs, Residential Supervisors, and Other Program Supervisors. Each participant in the survey received aggregate results and in collaboration with the survey partners,  we thought it was important to share a summary of the findings for all members.  As such,  we have prepared a one-page document that outlines the salient points.  You can click here to access the ID/A Workforce Report Summary. Additionally, on Thursday, the partner organizations issued a press release outlining the financial trends from a recent collaborative compensation survey confirming that low wages, high vacancy rates, and high turnover continue to plague providers who care for individuals living with intellectual disabilities and autism (ID/A).  You can click here to review the press release.

This information from this survey is critical to validate the need for further investment in community ID/A service and this data will be used in our advocacy moving forward.
